News: Sector 3 may get upland sand dune renourishment before year end!
Recent Meeting Bike/Pad Master Plan: met on September 20, 2023 regarding widening A1A
We attended the Bike/Pad Master Plan meeting on September 20, 2023. There is a plan to add at least 2 feet of pavement to both shoulders of A1A between SR 510 and Sebastian Inlet which we oppose. This sub plan for widening was sponsored by bicycle groups for more bikeway room under the new Sebastian Bridge plan. On a bridge related zoom call out of town bicycle riders were talking about bicycle events to the inlet. They wanted to develop bars and restaurants at the inlet. There were a number of concerned North Beach residents in attendance at the meeting!
We had a clear voice that widening would not fit in the narrow coastal strand. Additionally, taking out the drainage swales on the shoulders would be an environmental disaster for the Indian River Lagoon. The 1715 Treasure Fleet drinking ponds which are part of important bird flyways would be compromised!

Concerns: Saving the pristine scenic environment may be a better option than more bicycle infrastructure! Due to the tight scenic coastal strand and environmental issues this proposal may waste a lot of time and energy in unwanted opposition. Property Owners and Environmental Concerns on this tight coastal strand: We are getting a bunch of calls about survey work and proposed pavement widening for larger bicycle lanes by approximately 2 feet on both sides of A1A! ...
